The problem
A slow or dated site quietly costs you customers.
Your website is often a buyer’s first contact with you. If it’s slow, can’t be found on Google, or is impossible to update, it’s working against you.
- 01
A slow site, lost visitors
On mobile, every second of waiting drives visitors away. A theme loaded with plugins also drags down your search rankings.
- 02
Can’t be found for what you do
Pages with no clear title, no useful text, no links between them: Google can’t tell what you sell, or to whom.
- 03
Every update needs a vendor
Changing a price, adding a product, or posting news takes a quote and a week of waiting. So the site goes stale.
How it works
Website design or redesign, step by step.
The same method as my AI tools: measure first, design next, build last. You approve the mockup, then the launch date.
- Step 1 · Audit
I audit your current site
Pages that bring traffic, keywords, backlinks, speed, user journeys: you know what to keep before anything gets touched.
- Step 2 · Design
I design the key pages
A clickable mockup, on desktop and mobile, with your real copy: you see the site before it exists.
- Step 3 · Build
I build a fast site
A static site or WordPress depending on your needs, SEO tags, structured data, forms connected to your CRM.
- Step 4 · Launch
I launch it cleanly
Old URLs redirected, Search Console monitored, your team trained to edit pages themselves.
Two modes, set task by task
Inquiries from the website, and the chatbot’s replies if you have one, are first seen by someone on your team before they’re filed or sent.
Once they’re running smoothly, the forms and chatbot file each inquiry in the CRM on their own, with its source. An unusual inquiry goes straight to the right person.
Before and after
What changes with a website that works for you.
A well-designed site doesn’t just sit there: it answers, it sorts, it feeds your software.
| Task | Today | With the tool | Review |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quote request | Form received by email, retyped into the CRM | Inquiry created in the CRM, with its source | Fully automated |
| Visitor questions | Unanswered evenings and weekends | Chatbot answers from your own pages | Automatic after trial runs |
| Updating a page | Ask the vendor, then wait | Edited by your team in minutes | Internal approval |
| Appointment booking | Emails back and forth to find a time | Time slot booked online, in your calendar | Fully automated |
| Catalog product pages | Copied by hand from the ERP | Synced from the ERP at set times | Automatic if everything matches |
Typical example: actual times depend on your volumes and are measured during the audit.

The guide
Small business website design: what to know before you start.
Small business website design is more than a pretty template: you need pages Google understands, a site that loads fast on mobile, forms that land in the right place, and a tool your team knows how to update. A redesign adds one more requirement: losing none of what the old site had earned.
This guide answers the questions small business owners ask before designing or redesigning their website: what the quote should include, which technology to choose, SEO, and ownership.
Unusual situation? In 30 minutes, I’ll tell you what AI can take on, and what it shouldn’t do.
Book a call01What does website design include?
A professional website comes down to six steps, whoever builds it. If one is missing from the quote, ask why.
- Scoping: who the site is for, what it needs to produce (quote requests, meetings, orders), and the pages it needs. It’s the project brief, in short form.
- Design: the site structure, then mockups of the key pages, on desktop and mobile (responsive).
- Copywriting: text written for your buyers and for search, not filler.
- Development: front-end build, forms, connections to your software, SEO tags.
- Testing: checks on several screens and browsers, speed, links, forms.
- Launch and training: domain name, hosting, Search Console, and onboarding for your team.
At DigitalCX, each of these steps is in the written scope, with its fixed price and timeline.
02Website redesign: how do you keep your search rankings?
A poorly prepared redesign can lose, in a few weeks, traffic that took years to earn. The risk almost always comes from the same causes: page URLs that change with no redirect, deleted content that was ranking well, forgotten tags.
A clean redesign follows a precise order:
- audit what exists: list the pages that bring traffic, their keywords, and the links pointing to them;
- keep or improve that content, rather than starting from a blank page;
- write the redirect plan: every old URL points to its new page (301 redirect);
- monitor the launch in Search Console: errors, indexed pages, rankings.
It’s the first step of every redesign I run: you know what to protect before anything gets touched.
03Static site, WordPress, or custom: which to choose?
There’s no best technology in itself, only the one that fits how you’ll use it.
- A static site (built with Astro, for example): pages are prepared in advance and served as is. It’s the fastest and most secure option, with little maintenance. Ideal for a company website or a catalog that changes at a reasonable pace.
- WordPress: the most widely used CMS, practical when several people publish often (news, blog). It needs regular updates and discipline with plugins, which quickly weigh a site down.
- Custom development: needed as soon as you want a customer portal, a catalog with customer-specific pricing, or logic specific to your business. At that point, it becomes custom business software.
Often, the right answer mixes the two: a fast static site for the public pages, and a dynamic module where one is needed. The choice is made during scoping, based on who edits what and how often.
04A fast site that ranks: what really matters
Search engine optimization (SEO) isn’t fixed by ticking a plugin box at the end. It’s built in from the design stage, on three levels.
- Technical: a site that’s fast on mobile, measured by Google’s Core Web Vitals (load time, responsiveness, page stability), clean URLs, a sitemap, structured data.
- Structure: one page per service and per audience, each with its own keyword, connected by useful links. That’s what lets Google understand what you sell, and to whom.
- Content: text that answers your buyers’ real questions, in your industry’s words, with your examples and your straight answers.
No serious provider can promise you the top spot on Google. What a provider can commit to is a technically sound, well-structured site, and pages that give Google every reason to show you.
05B2B website development that works for you: forms, booking, AI chatbot
A small B2B company’s website isn’t a brochure: it’s often the first salesperson a buyer meets. It can do much more than display what you offer.
- Forms connected to the CRM: every inquiry lands in HubSpot, Pipedrive, or Salesforce, linked to the right contact, with the page it came from. No more retyping, no more inquiries lost in an inbox.
- Online booking: the visitor picks an open time slot, and the meeting goes straight into your calendar.
- A catalog synced with your ERP through an API integration: prices and availability up to date with no retyping.
- An AI chatbot that answers from your own pages and documents, evenings and weekends, and hands your team whatever it can’t handle.
Each of these building blocks can be added at launch or later. For the chatbot, see AI chatbots for websites.
06Ownership, hosting, and maintenance
Ask any provider three questions up front: who owns the domain name, the hosting, and the code? Too many companies find out, the day they want to switch, that their site is registered in the agency’s name.
At DigitalCX, the rule is simple:
- the domain name and hosting are in your name, billed directly by their provider, with no markup;
- the code is handed over to you, with documentation;
- your team is trained to edit the text, images, and everyday pages.
A static site needs very little maintenance: no plugins to update every week. A WordPress site needs regular attention to updates and backups. Either way, monthly support is optional: take it if you want to keep improving the site; otherwise, you’re not tied in.
Questions
Your questions about your website. Straight answers.
Price, timelines, SEO, updates: what I get asked before a new website or a redesign.
01Will I be able to update my website myself?
Yes. Text, images, news, and everyday pages can be edited without writing code, and your team is trained at handover. For structural changes or new features, we work on them together.
02Can you add an AI chatbot to my website?
Yes, at launch or later. The chatbot answers from your own pages and documents, and passes along to your team whatever it can’t handle. Its replies can be reviewed by a person at first, then go out on their own once proven.
01Is SEO included in website design?
Yes, technical SEO and page structure are part of website design: speed, tags, structured data, sitemap, internal links. For a redesign, the SEO audit and the redirect plan are included.
02Who owns the site, the domain name, and the code?
You do, from day one. The domain and hosting are opened in your name with their provider, and the code is handed over with its documentation. If you ever switch providers, you leave with everything.
01How much does small business website design cost?
The price depends on the number of pages, the copywriting, and the connections to your software. It’s fixed and stated in the written proposal. The domain name and hosting are paid directly to their provider, in your name.
02How long does it take to design or redesign a website?
The timeline is written into the proposal, after scoping. It depends mostly on the number of pages and how quickly your materials are ready: logo, client references, a few hours of your time for the mockup. I can write the copy from an interview; you review it before launch.
